Travel

If you are flying from the US or Europe, then Turkish Airlines offers the best connectivity into Bishkek (airport code: FRU) through Istanbul (IST). Note that many flights into FRU arrive very early morning, so it is recommended that you book a hotel room to ease your entry into the Kyrgyz time zone, which is +10 h ahead of ET and +6 h ahead of UTC.

On the afternoon of Wednesday 13SEP, we will gather at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) campus (7/6 Aaly Tokombaev St, Bishkek 720060, Kyrgyzstan) for the bus that will take workshop participants to the meeting location in Cholpon-Ata on the north shore of Issyk-Kul. The bus ride will take about 4 hours (~285 km).

On late Sunday morning 17SEP, we will take the bus back to Bishkek. Many flights depart FRU either late night or very early morning, so it is recommended that you book a hotel room in Bishkek to prepare for the journey home.

For the citizens of most countries, visas are not required for short-term stays. To check your status, please consult: https://www.evisa.e-gov.kg/. If you are from a country requiring a visa, please contact us well in advance so that we can provide you with appropriate documentation.

Note that the electrical grid in Kyrgyzstan runs at 220 V and 50 Hz. There are two plug types used in Kyrgyzstan: (1) plug type C is a plug that has two round pins; and (2) plug type F is a plug that has two round pins with two ground clips on the sides. See illustration of adaptor types here: https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/guidance/advice-for-you/when-travelling/travel-adaptor-for-kyrgyzstan/.
